about

Here's a song I wrote, inspired by my interactions with friends who have had mental health problems, especially since having my own issues. I stole & tweaked a couple of lines from a Streetlight Manifesto song (sorry Toh Kay! Song is 'Better Place, Better Time')which I used to love, but since being somewhere similar to the subject of the song I have lost a lot of the feeling of connection I had with it. Only two lines still really connect, and those are the two I've nicked!

Also, had some help from a couple of friends with other bits, especially the first two lines of the third verse which were from Emma - thank-you nailed something I hadn't realised I was trying to say!

lyrics

Verse 1:
I can’t promise not to stop you
Cause I don’t want to lose you
But whatever you may choose
I’ll try not to interfere
But if you will only let me
I’ll stay here and hold you close
Instead I will just sit on my alone
Hoping that you’ll change your mind

Chorus:
I wish you didn’t feel this pain
I wish that I could stop the hurt
But if you can’t stick through the fight
I’ll try not to hold on so tight

And if you ask I’ll draw your bath
If you ask I’ll go and load your gun
And all that I will ask of you
Is that you’ll try to bathe and hunt

Verse 2:
I sometimes want to hold you tight
To stop your urges through the night
I know I sometimes miss the signs
But that doesn’t mean I’ve changed my mind

Chorus

Verse 3
Your old self shows through now and then
The briefest moments but they’re there
If you could just reach out to me
I’ll take your hand and pull you through
But I know you’re scared of help
As you are of growing old
So I’ll just offer you my hand
And keep hoping for a change of heart

Chorus
Chorus 2nd part
Chorus 1st part

about

Rohan Bristol, UK

Since my introduction to live performance as the Guitarist of The Highway Home (a contemporary folk trio) I have built up my confidence as a performer, in particular as a solo performer. This has brought my latent songwriting side out again after a number of years off - I'm loving this new musical productivity!

You can find me at various open mics around Bristol, and maybe some solo gigs soon!
